Standing high over the city
of
Salzburg, the magnificent
Hohensalzburg dominates
the city, being its main tourist attraction. The
castle
is Europe’s biggest fortification and
probably the most beautiful.

The castle hosts many events
during the year, and it also has a major concert hall.
Inside the castle there is a permanent Fortress Museum that can be visited anytime of
the year. Getting there is quite simple: one can
take the funicular railway from the downtown that runs
every 10 minutes. If one is physically fit, the road to
the castle can be made by walk in about 30 minutes. There
are many things one can see taking a walk up to the
castle that otherwise would be missed, so the second
option is recommended for those being able to make
it. |
Inside the castle there are available
audio guides in eight different languages: English,
German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian,
and Chinese.
